Find out how you can help your Year 2 child to progress in Maths.
Hints and tips
- Keep maths practical and give it a real context – this is far easier at home than it is in school!
- Challenge, but don’t be tempted to move too far too fast. Children need to master concepts before moving on – this means that they can approach the application from every angle and in every context and can problem solve very effectively using the applications.
- If your child is struggling with a concept or idea, try and look at it from a different angle, give it a real context and use apparatus if it helps.
- Your child will start to recognise the column method for addition and subtraction (without carrying), so support them in this method.
