Science Spies: Travelling sound

In this final instalment of the series, get your class investigating a real science puzzle in the role of top secret lab assistants. This month’s mission: Does sound travel through solid objects?

The focus of this investigation is to explore sound waves travelling through a solid material; in this case, string. It has been designed to introduce the subject of sound and hearing to a Key Stage 1 class through the form of a hands-on, fun and practical science lesson. Resources are minimal and the session is very simple to prepare. For this investigation children will need to work in pairs.
