Add to My Folder

By Judith Harries

This series of articles looks at the work of famous artists through history and how they have tackled different types of art. It seeks to inspire practitioners to share artistic ideas and inspiration with Early Years children and to create their own artworks. The first article investigates famous portrait artists from Rembrandt to Leibovitz and suggests different ways children can paint and create portraits.

Painting portraits is a very old art form and is often used to show the subject at their best, demonstrating power, beauty, intelligence or any other virtues of the sitter. Here are some artists who are famous for their work in portraiture together with some fun activities to try.
