Exploring Media and Materials

Early learning goal: explore colour, texture, shape, form and space in two or three dimensions.

What to do

Cut out a circle of card. On the top half, draw a child wearing summer clothes and sunglasses against a sunny background. On the bottom half (facing this), draw a child in a rainy scene wearing a raincoat and holding an umbrella.

Attach the circle, with a split pin in the centre, to a sheet of backing card. Cover the bottom half of the circle with a second sheet of card and glue this down at the sides and the bottom edge so that the sunny scene appears over the top.

As the children turn the circle, the sun will disappear from view and the rain will appear, and so on.
