With the investigative skills of Miss Marple and the kookiness of Amélie, Ottoline is no ordinary girl detective

Ottoline and the yellow cat

Chris Riddell’s Ottoline series (Macmillan, £8.99 HB) relays the amazing life of a kooky young girl named Ottoline and her hairy companion, Mr Munroe. The unlikely duo reside together in a luxury flat on the 24th floor of the Pepperpot Building. In their debut appearance in Ottoline and the Yellow Cat, Ottoline and Mr Munroe come face to face with a villainous and sneaky feline crook and, as a result, solve a mystery involving missing dogs.

In terms of text, Ottoline and the Yellow Cat is a relatively short novel, but it’s filled with little games, postcards, a poster, diagrams, maps and lots of fantastic illustrations that young readers of all ages and abilities will love.
