Creative Development

Creating Music and Dance

Developmental matters: explore and learn how sounds can be changed (30-50 months).

Early learning goal: recognise and explore how sounds can be changed, sing simple songs from memory, recognise repeated sounds and sound patterns and match movements to music.

What you need

Group size: small group.

Tape recorder.

What to do

Explain to the children that you would like to play a game involving guessing the sounds of farm animals, but that you have do not have any animals to make those sounds. Suggest that children make the sounds for you. Let the children have fun experimenting with creating animal sounds with their voice and body, then record the final choices. Play the sounds back for other children to guess the animal sound.
