Hang a washing line in your classroom or Early Years setting for a range of counting activities.

What you need

Approximately 2m of washing line hung across the room, within reach of children; coloured pegs; pairs of coloured and patterned socks.


What to do

Invite the children to peg the socks on the line in matching pairs. Can they use pegs of the same colour for each pair of socks? Who can hang their pairs of socks on the line first?
