This new mini-series contains specially designed activities that target each of the three key characteristics of effective learning from the EYFS. This first article focuses on creating and thinking critically.

Characteristics of effective learning

Creating and Thinking Critically

Children have, and develop, their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.

Creativity and critical thinking are processes that are child led but which benefit greatly from the sensitive contributions of others. The processes involve making connections between things, people or places in ways that are new and personally meaningful to a child. Opportunities for this occur in all areas of learning and development.
