Use creative writing activities to investigate the reasons of exploration in Tudor times
Encourage children to use the activity sheets ‘Diary of a settler’ and ‘Diary of a settler’, relating to the attempted settlement of Roanoke during the 1580s, together with the linked activities, to understand how this kind of exploration affected the different people involved. It will help them to gain an insight into the reasons for, and results of, exploration of the New World during Tudor times. While doing so, it will also bring them face to face with vital citizenship issues such as prejudice, fear, justice and respect for other cultures and traditions.
