Boats on Thames

Boats, boats and more boats

The Diamond Jubilee Pageant will be the largest flotilla of boats ever assembled on the River Thames from the smallest of rowing boats to Viking longboats. Supply your children with images of different vessels shown in the Slideshow, ‘Boats’, and discuss who might sail in them.

Ask children to imagine they are taking part in the pageant and will need a boat fit to sail past the Queen. Ask your class to design their own boat to help them to make models from either construction toys or ‘junk modelling’. Display the models along a piece of blue cloth or paper to represent the Thames.
