“It’s time for action,” said Mr Gum to nobody in particular. “Nasty action.”

The stinkiest, grottiest, meanest, meanest villain ever

Who and what is Mr Gum? The absurd and fast moving Mr Gum series sees quirky villain, Mr Gum, meet his match in the form of a girl called Polly and her friend, the flunky hero, Friday O’Leary.

The Mr Gum stories provide an excellent opportunity to explore what makes a story funny, including the way characters make us laugh. The stories are short, with brilliant sketchy illustrations and whacky fonts, both of which provide an excellent way in for children moving from picture to longer chapter books.
